Shirley Crawley Makris, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away on November 10, 2021, after a brave battle with Parkinson's Disease.

She died peacefully at home with family by her side. Shirley never gave up hope and never stopped fighting; she faced her illness with much courage, which is certainly no surprise to those who knew her and her feisty spirit.

She was the daughter of Nell Elizabeth Cagle Roberson and Hubert Clay Roberson of Pikeville, Tn.

She was born and raised in Pikeville, Tn., where she was a graduate of Bledsoe County High School. She attended The University of Chattanooga School of Nursing, and served as a Pink Lady at Memorial Hospital.

Shirley was an avid golfer, and was a long-time member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.

In addition to her passion for golf, was her love for interior design. She opened Elizabeth Ryan Furniture Boutique, on the Chattanooga North Shore, in 2003. The years she spent assisting others with their homes brought her true joy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. James Floyd Crawley, Jr; son, William "Billy" Patrick O'Brien III; sister, Mary Elizabeth Standefer; brother, Bobby Max Roberson.

Survivors include her daughter, Amy Elizabeth O'Brien (Ryan Fuller) of Chattanooga; her sister, Alya Dean Kanuckel of Crossville, Tn.; her brother, Lavens Clay Roberson of Pikeville, Tn.; her granddaughters, Mary Taylor Frisbee (Gary) of Chattanooga; Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth Ray of Nashville; Mary "Molly" Catherine Ray of Nashville; great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Kennady; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the special people who have been there for Shirley the past few years; especially her caregivers Lisa and Brandy, whose steadfast dedication, compassion, and love will always be treasured. Special thanks to the amazing coaches and members of Rock Steady Boxing Chattanooga for providing an atmosphere of encouragement, support, and friendship; and Hospice of Chattanooga for their service.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 4-6 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 6 p.m.

The visitation and service will be held at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga.

Memorial donations may be made to Rock Steady Boxing Chattanooga, 4009 Cloud Springs Road, Ringgold, Ga. 30736.

Arrangements are entrusted by Hamilton Funeral Home & Cremation services, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, 423 531-3975.
