Atheleen “Abbie” Wallace Childress, 91, of Chattanooga went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Atheleen was born to the late Calvin and Hattie Wallace.

Abblie loved God, country, and family.  She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church for 76 years.

She loved America and never failed to vote.

She served as a caregiver to her husband Ted for 28 years and thrived on hosting family dinners and holiday meals.

Graduating from Central High school in 1947, she looked forward to the class reunions each year.  She was an avid UT Vols fan and season holder for over 40 years.

Atheleen was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles T. Childress; brother, Max F. Wallace; and cousin/sister, Louise Wilcox.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Sturdivant (Louis), Kennesaw, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition, we want to thank her compassionate care givers, Teresa, Elizabeth, and Nola, who kept her vibrant over the last four years and the nurses, Jackie and Isaac of Hearth Hospice who gave her excellent care over the last 11 months.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 26, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Crosby officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Orange Grove, 615 Derby St., Chattanooga, Tn. 37404.
