Kristy and Stacy Hodges
Apison curiosities
Location was a grocery, then it was an early building used by Hullco
It is definitely a family affair at the Grey Flower Deli in Apison.
Stacy and Kristy Hodges, operating in the former Hullander Grocery on London Lane, get frequent help from their son and three daughters.
The Grey Flower opened its doors in September of 2019.
Ms. Hodges said, "This establishment is family owned and operated and focused on quality ingredients and a family atmosphere. Stacy's heart beats the restaurant business, which he has had some connection to since he was a teenager. The entire Hodges family share the responsibilities of this endeavor. However, the venture could not be a reality without our neighbor Belinda and friend Erica.
"Our hot hoagies are made with Boar’s Head’s high-quality meats and cheeses, as well as freshly sliced veggies. The Grey Flower Deli makes some amazing sandwiches, all fresh in house. The chicken salad, smoked jalapeno tuna, and meatloaf sandwiches are made from scratch and unbelievably delicious. Our loaded quarter pound all beef Frank with homemade chili and the house smoked BBQ are definitely something you need to try."
The Grey Flower Deli is open for lunch from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. all week, but they are also serving fresh handmade pizza and smoked wings Thursday-Saturday evenings 4-8 p.m. featuring hand stretched dough, fresh toppings, and sauce made in house.
For those who live within five miles of the Grey Flower, son James will provide delivery.
Mrs. Hodges said, “Where did you get the name Grey Flower from,” is a question often asked. So, here’s the story… Years ago Mr. Hodges was experimenting with flour for pizza dough, so he purchased a high-end imported flour. This flour was grey in color and Mr. Hodges immediately thought that would be a great pizzeria name, Grey Flour. Fast forward to opening this family business, the three daughters wanted forget-me-not flowers to be the logo. Thus, the Grey Flower Deli name is one of the many great compromises between father and daughters."
The deli offers dine-in, call-in, pick-up, delivery, and curb-side pickup. Call 423-236-5050, or visit them at 10930 London Lane.
