Clarence Ernest Smith, Jr., age 74, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tn.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, John E. Smith, Dorothy Short, and Vera Funk.

Clarence retired with a rank of Major in the United States Air Force having served for 23 years, he attended Good Samaritan Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Charmia Gay Smith of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Shane Holcomb of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, Jody Wayne and Sharon Smith of Sumter, SC; grandchildren, Tyler Wayne Smith, Jake Ronald Smith, Austin Holcomb and Sydnie Holcomb, Abbey Alsbrooks and Ashton Cagle; two great-grandchildren; Hazley Anderson and Maizie Cagle with nieces, nephews and cousins also surviving.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Corbin officiating.

Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Julian Peeples Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 12, from 7-9 p.m.
