Bond Arts & Culture Series Presents African American Film Festival

Chattanooga State Community College continues its celebration of Black History Month with a series of African American films streaming now on Hulu, Netflix or PBS. Students and employees of Chattanooga State can access most of the films for free through the Kolwyck Library & Information Commons. Panel discussions will be hosted during the “African American Film Festival” scheduled for Tuesday through Thursday. See times and Zoom login information below.

Discussion with Criminal Investigator Chuck Martin and Dr. Robert Robinson 
Speaker Information: Mr. Martin is a criminal investigator with the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office in Decatur, GA and owner of TeamCKP, LLC with over 22 years of progressive law enforcement experience. Dr. Robinson has a 15-year background in managing and leading diversity initiatives in higher education.

Discussion with Bettie Mae Fikes, the “Voice of Selm” 
Speaker Information: Bettie Mae Fikes, known as the “Voice of Selma,” marched with John Lewis during the Civil Rights Movement. She is an academic lecturer who has delivered moving speeches about diversity and civil rights in the U.S. and Canada.

Discussion with Chattanooga State BOSS Director Amanda Jordan and her husband Pastor JaMichael Jordan 
Speaker Information: Amanda Jordan is the coordinator of Chattanooga State’s Building Outstanding Student Scholars (BOSS) program and her husband, JaMichael Jordan, pastors a local church in the community.

Discussion with Dr. Felysha Jenkins and Chaplain Chris Jones 
Speaker Information: Dr. Jenkins holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree and has more than 15 years of teaching experience providing expertise in diversity and inclusion initiatives. She serves as an Early College outreach specialist at Chattanooga State. Chris Jones is an entrepreneur, clinical chaplain and mediator who has a passion for organizing and addressing matters related to Black men and mental health and creating safe spaces for marginalized communities and voices.

Discussion with the writer of the film Stefon Bristol 
Speaker Information: Stefon Bristol, a graduate of Morehouse College and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, became a collaborator with Oscar-winning mentor Spike Lee to adapt Bristol’s 17-minut thesis, See You Yesterday, which screened at 35 film festivals.

Speaker Information: Jamal Pope is the manager of growth and strategies at Avanade’s focusing on ventures and creates partnerships between startup companies and Avanade’s clients. Jonathan Norris is the lead business analyst of issue management for mortgage consumers and business banking at U.S. Bank and leads team efforts to build technology solutions that transform business processes.

Speaker Information: Dr. Dr. Emdin is an associate professor at Columbia University where he also serves as director of the science education program and associate director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education. As the creator of #HipHopEd social media movement, his topics also include hip-hop education, STEM, politics, race, class, diversity, and youth empowerment.
