Edwin Lawrence Tankesley, Jr., 91, of Chattanooga, was born on January 26, 1930, and passed away February 22, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (McKinny) and Edwin Lawrence Tankesley, sister, Jean (Tankesley) Fuston, and brothers, Tom and Bob Tankesley.
A native of Chattanooga, Ed graduated from Baylor School and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. After serving two years in the army, First Cavalry Division, he attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and then took a job with CIBA Pharmaceuticals in New Orleans. He returned to Chattanooga and took a job at Winthrop Pharmaceuticals and then Investment Securities. Ed enjoyed camping, fishing, history, and genealogy.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Madolyn Jo Strahle, and had five children, Brenda (Bill) Oglesby, Karen (Paul) Friedla, Judy (David) Hooton, Lynn (Kent) Grotefendt, and Mike (Beverly) Tankesley. He had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
