John Marshall Pike
John Marshall Pike, age 75, of Summerville, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, April 11, 2021, at his residence.
He was born on Monday, May 7, 1945 in Boyd, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Townsend Pike; and mother and stepfather, Hazel and Charlie Hayes.
John spent his career working in carpet mills in Dalton, retiring from J and J. John was a beloved Poppy, Papaw, Dad, brother and friend. He enjoyed the view from his front porch and enjoyed watching the hummingbirds visit his feeders. He took great joy in picking the perfect birthday card or doing that special little extra touch to help a family member of neighbor out whether it was cooking the best mashed potatoes in the world (per his great-granddaughter), loaning his tools and expertise to his sons and friends, or countless other little gestures of love that he demonstrated daily.
Left to treasure his memory are his three sons, Mark (Keri) Pike of Summerville, GA, Tim (Misti) Pike of Tellico Plains, TN, and John Jr. (Robin) Pike of Calhoun, GA; brother, Ted (Judy) Hayes of Turtletown, TN; sisters, Fay Pike Carolin of San Antonio, TX, Anita (Jerry) Shoemaker of Dalton, GA, Bobby Jean Hayes of Ranger, GA, and Rita Hayes of Ranger, GA; his cherished grandchildren, Faith, Hope, T.J., Mason, Brooklyn and Caleb; his great-granddaughter, Kara; and several nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. John Marshall Pike will be held Thursday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Chris Tarvin officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife at the Ponders Colonial Hills Memorial Park with Mark Pike, Tim Pike, Allen Cain, Joshua Cain, Frantz Philossaint and John Jr. Pike serving as pallbearers.
Due to the national health crisis and the COVID-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
