Sallie Mae Raines “Mustang Sallie”, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, in Chattanooga. 

Sallie was born in Athens, Ga.  She attended Howard High School and was an Avondale resident for 40 years. She is of the Baptist faith and a member of New Zion Baptist Church. 

She was predeceased by her mother, Edna Ophelia Brown; son, Edward Eugene Brown; husband, James Raines. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Denise Newman and Brenda Gail Raines; 5 grandchildren, Fredrick Dewayne (Tamekia) Raines,  Laphelia Denise Sawyer, LaQuail Cherishe’, Shameka (Kenny) Cunningham, Taneka (Jonathan) Smith; nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Micheal, Jayvon Jewsome, Mason Raines, Tobias Jewsome, Kaitlyn Raines; special niece, Darcell Swafford. 

Public viewing will be held from 2–6 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home.
