Chattanooga Theatre Centre Presents The Miss Firecracker Contest

Auditions Are Sunday-Wednesday

  • Wednesday, May 12, 2021

The Chattanooga Theatre Centre will present Beth Henley's nutty The Miss Firecracker Contest July 9-25. This Southern Gothic comedy comes from the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who brought Crimes of the Heart to the stage.

Review for The Miss Firecracker Contest:

Its heroine, Carnelle, is an irrepressible young woman who thinks that winning the local beauty contest, held annually on the Fourth of July, will restore her soiled reputation and make her somebody in her small Mississippi community.

The family and friends who help her along the way are a dysfunctional bunch who tackle life in their own peculiar ways. The path to victory might get a bit bumpy, but no one will ever be the same after the Miss Firecracker Contest.

In-person auditions will be held this coming Sunday through Wednesday, May 16-19. Directors are
considering the option to double-cast the show, depending on availability, with two male and four female roles each. Organizers are committed to non-traditional and color-conscious casting.

Performers should be vaccinated for COVID-19 or be willing to be vaccinated prior to performances.
