CDOT Announces Upcoming Road Closures

Monday, July 26, 2021

The Chattanooga Department of Transportation announces the following upcoming road closures: 

W 26th Street
 
W 26th Street will be closed between Williams Street and Long Street beginning Monday, July 26 through Tuesday, July 27. Detours will be posted. 

Wilcox Blvd Tunnel
 
Wilcox Boulevard Tunnel will be closed on the following dates and times for TDOT inspection:
Monday, July 26 at 8 p.m. until Tuesday, July 27 at 5 a.m. 
Detours will be posted. Please plan additional time while traveling. 

5991 Hickory Valley Road
 
Hickory Valley Road will see single-lane closures on Tuesday, July 26 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. while curbs are installed.  Two-way traffic will be maintained by electronic flaggers (traffic lights).  Delays are expected, please use alternative routes if possible. This work is weather-dependent and may extend to Wednesday if required.

Shallowford Road
 
Shallowford Road will be reduced to one lane between Jersey Pike and Cromwell Road on Tuesday, July 27 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. for vegetation management. Two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of flaggers. Delays are expected, please use alternative routes if possible. This work is weather-dependent and may extend to Wednesday if required.

McCallie Tunnel - Westbound
 
McCallie Tunnel westbound will be closed on the following dates and times for TDOT inspection:
Tuesday, July 27 at 8 p.m. until Wednesday, July 28 at 5 a.m. 
Detours will be posted. Please plan additional time while traveling. 

McCallie Tunnel - Eastbound
 
McCallie Tunnel eastbound will be closed on the following dates and times for TDOT inspection:
Wednesday, July 28 at 8 p.m. until Thursday, July 29 at 5 a.m. 
Detours will be posted. Please plan additional time while traveling. 

Stringers Ridge Tunnel
 
Stringers Ridge Tunnel on Cherokee Blvd will be closed on the following dates and times for TDOT inspection:
Thursday, July 29 at 8 p.m. until Friday, July 30 at 5 a.m. 
Detours will be posted. Please plan additional time while traveling.

Hamilton County Has 3 More COVID Deaths, 286 New Cases; Tennessee Has 52 More Deaths

The Hamilton County Health Department reported three more deaths from the coronavirus and 286 new positive cases on Friday. The case number is up from 245 on Thursday. The total cases in the county now stands at 59,841. The death total is at 597. The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 319 in Hamilton County - down from 344 on Thursday. Janet Hinds Trial Starts Monday With Jury From Nashville

A Nashville jury has been selected to hear the trial of the former Soddy Daisy postmaster who is charged in the traffic death of rookie Chattanooga Police officer Nicholas Galinger.
