Vickie Lynn McGee, 70, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

Mom was a farm girl at heart after being raised with her seven siblings on a large farm in LaFayette, GA.  In her younger years, mom loved to grow her own vegetable gardens.  My sister and I have fond memories of shucking corn and watching mom can each season.  She was a wonderful Southern cook who never followed a recipe - it just came naturally.

Mom was known as "Maw Maw" to each of her grandchildren - each of whom she helped raise.  As a nurse for over 30 years, mom was a natural caregiver.  Her love, her kindness, her endless support and generosity knew no bounds.  Mom loved unconditionally and always taught to never judge as each person has a story to be heard.

"I'm not afraid to die", mom said several times throughout her life.  "I know where I'm going."  Her love for God was always evident and she knew she would be rejoined with our beloved sister, Erin Elizabeth, upon arrival to Heaven.  We know you are together now and find great peace in this knowledge.

While we deeply grieve her loss here on Earth, we know she is now free.  May the winds of Heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear how much we love and miss you and wish you were here.  You were loved by so many.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Erin Elizabeth McGee; parents, Wayne Waters and Verda Ladd Waters; sisters, Phyllis Gail Waters and Bobbie June Waters Davis; and brother, Stevie Lee Waters.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kathryn Taylor and Kelli Anne (William Jason Baker) McGee; grandchildren, Austin James Faulkner, Benjamin Cade Bishop, Jackson Louis Bishop, and Harper Elizabeth Taylor; sisters, Jimmie Ruth Denson and Dena Ramey; brothers, Wayne Waters and Walter M. Waters; and several nieces and nephews.

The family invites friends and family to a Memorial Service to be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 p.m. at Wallis Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette, Ga.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rivermont Elementary Special Education Program located at 3330 Hixson Pike Chattanooga, TN 37415.
