Association Of Fundraising Professionals Tn. Announces National Philanthropy Day Award Recipients

Wednesday, September 22, 2021

National Philanthropy Day hosted by the Southeastern Tennessee AFP Chapter will be held on Nov. 3. Organized in the 1980s, National Philanthropy Day, sponsored by First Horizon Bank, Morning Pointe, UTC, and Starkey Printing Company, is a day to recognize and celebrate the societal contributions of philanthropy.

National Philanthropy Day will be honoring these recipients for the following categories:

Youth in Philanthropy: Patrick Warren
Corporate Philanthropist: BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation
Leadership Fundraiser of the Year: Daisy Maurya- Ballard
Outstanding Philanthropist Award: Friends of Special Children

“The Association of Fundraising Professionals are excited to celebrate and honor the individuals,  corporations, and groups of people who have invested in our community during these difficult times," said Susan Day, chair, NPD 2021.

“We can recount the myriad of catastrophic events of 2020; the global pandemic, natural disasters, mandated shutdowns and unemployment that plagued our country, our community," said E'tienne Easley, chair assistant, NPD 2021. "Despite the devastation of those unprecedented events, we saw our community's altruism heal our city. Corporations donated funds, businesses provided supplies, youth took on food and water drives, and churches served as safe havens for displaced families. Without these groups, without their assistance, many communities would have suffered at a much greater rate.”

Tables begin at $500 and tickets are $50 each. Tables and tickets are available for this luncheon event. Please visit https://community.afpnet.org/setn/home to purchase. For more information contact Susan Day at Susandday24@gmail.com.

Pretending Is Dangerous

I’ve ‘seen some stuff’ in my time. I have followed politics for many years. I’m retired, I’m a realist and a Vietnam veteran, pretty much in that order. I’m not an alarmist or a conspiracy theorist. That said, I have never in my life been so concerned about the future of this Republic. Politics was once a legitimate contest of ideas, put forth by political figures who were sincere, ... Roy Exum: ‘Picciola,’ At Age 185

I came in touch with a man named James Baldwin last week and he’s a man I really like. Oh, I never met him in person … no, he was born in 1841 and died 96 years ago so I have only become a recent admirer through his books. A self-educated man, he became the Superintendent of Schools in Indiana at the age of 24 for 18 years. Then, not so curiously, he worried that children were missing ... (click for more)
