Alan "Big Al" Dewar Solenberger, 82, of Philadelphia, Pa., passed away on January 14, 2022 at home in Cleveland, with his wife Sylvia by his side, following a long illness.
Alan was born on Sept. 30, 1939 to Dorothy and John D. Solenberger in Philadelphia, Pa. In Glassboro High School he met the love of his life, Sylvia Watson. After graduation they married in Glassboro New Jersey on Sept. 12, 1959. They had three children, John Alan, Christine Ann and Lorraine Sue. Alan worked as a chemical engineer and later in life graduated with honors from Rowan University in New Jersey with a CPA degree. Despite moves to many states, Florida was his love. Alan enjoyed fishing, boating and building H.O. trains and models of all kinds. Alan and Sylvia treasured 62 years of marriage.
Alan is preceded in death by his son, John A. Solenberger; his parents, John D. Solenberger and Dorothy Crane; and his brother, James Solenberger.
Alan is survived by his wife, Sylvia and his daughters, Christine and her husband, Jon and Lorraine Walters; his sister, Susan and her husband, David Brown; his brothers, Phil and Jennie Crane, Lee and Alison Crane and a half-sister, Susan and her husband, Andy Miller. Alan is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life service will be held in Crystal River, Fl. at Strickland Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 5. Family and close friends will gather together to reminisce, grieve and support each other. Alan will be laid to rest next to his son, John in Crystal River Memorial Cemetary.
