J.W. Walters
J.W. Walters, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away on January 5, 2022, at his home.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, J.W. was retired owner and operator of S & W Construction with his partner, the late Richard Schmitt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church for 75 years where he served as a former choir director, deacon and in 2011 J.W. built the current sanctuary and Sunday School department of the church.
He was a member of East Lake Masonic Lodge and the Alhambra Shrine.
J.W. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Jean; daughter, Teena Steele; parents, Thomas and Maggie Walters; sisters, Marie Burris and Dora Lee Shields.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Karen) Walters, Apison, and Mark (Brenda) Walters, Chattanooga; sister, Mary Matthews, Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Cara Medley, Jonathan (Monica) Steele, Heather (Ryan) Prairie, and Haley (Brent) Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Dara Steele, Peyton Steele, Abigail Steele, Maddy Johnson, Landon and Luke Prairie; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Morris Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Mason and Rev. James Click officiating. Burial will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery with Donnie Ricketts, J.R. Humphries, Eddie Cannon, Jonathan Steele, Peyton Steele, Brent Johnson, and Ryan Prairie serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 8, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Morris Hill Baptist Church.
