Isidore Frumin, 92, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022, at his home. He lived his whole life in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

When he retired, he was vice president of Siskin Steel and Supply, where he worked for 50 years.

Sports played a huge part of his life starting in the 5th grade at H. Clay Evans Elementary where he played baseball, basketball, ran track and wrestled. He graduated from City High after playing three years on the Varsity baseball and basketball teams. He was recognized All City in baseball and basketball.

During summer vacations he played American Legion Baseball and pitched Fast Pitch Softball for the B’nai Zion Men’s Softball Team and was in the City Church League.

After high school he went into the Air Force. He attended Aeronautic School in Sarasota, FL and was recruited to play with a semi-pro baseball team near Venice. He also played Fast Pitch softball for the Sarasota American Legion Team.

For the Air Force he was a part of the Strategic Air Command. His division was responsible for air refueling planes en route to Korea and other parts of the world.

While in service he married Molly Katchen of Chattanooga.

When his tour of duty was complete he and Molly opened a grocery store and had one child, Adriel. After two years he sold the store and went to work for Siskin Steel.

Izzie continued to play ball. He played Fast Pitch Softball for the Elite City League. He was the Jewish Community Center’s first paid Athletic Director. His teams, Youth and Adult have played teams from Nashville, Knoxville, Birmingham, Atlanta and Charleston. In 2012 he was inducted into the Chattanooga Regional Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

At 60 Izzie took up Tennis and played for years until a shoulder injury sidelined him. He played in tournaments locally and regionally.

Izzie was a lifelong member of B’nai Zion Synagogue and served on its board.

He will be remembered as an avid sports fan, a patient, funny, humble and kind man. He was respected and loved by all who met him.

He is survived by his daughter, Adriel Cogdal of Signal Hill, CA.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 10 a.m. at the B’nai Zion Cemetery, 605 Lullwater Road, Chattanooga, followed by a reception at the Ashwood Square, 7683 Shallowford Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Jewish Federation of Chattanooga or the B’nai Zion Synagogue.
