James L. Foster, Sr. was born on June 21,1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He departed this life on Sunday, October 2, 2022.

James attended Riverside High School and his most recent employer was Walden Security Company. He was called to the Ministry of the Gospel after serving as a deacon at Galatia Early Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor Willie C. Johnson. He had a heart for serving pastors and churches and proudly served the following: Reverend Sam C. Lewis , Bishop Claudius Pratt, Pastor James Jones, Pastor Raymond Moore, Pastor George Clay and many others. His hobbies included driving, fishing, shopping, and he was a lover of hats and shoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Smith and Evelyn Smith; his wife Florence Diane Foster, and his oldest son, Robert Foster. 

His survivors include his sons, James L. Foster, Jr. ( Mellisa) and C. Bryant Foster (Joclyn); sisters, Carolyn Smith Thomas, Anita Brinson, and Lutrisha Brinson; brothers, Nathaniel A.Brinson (Latasha), Larry S.Brinson (Brenda), Samuel Brinson, and Lemar H. Brinson; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him dearly. He had friends around the world who cherish memories, including Denise Fallen.

Public viewing will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home.

A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, at The Worship Center, 1014 East 4th Street.

Interment will be in Tyner Cemetery,  6620 Bonny Oaks Dr., Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
