Rufus Armour, Jr.

Rufus Armour, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was currently residing with his daughter, Nicole and his daughter-in-love, Rolice. Rufus was born July 26,1949 to Rufus, Sr. and Mrs. Flossie Armour who both preceded him in death. 

 

A product of the East Chattanooga Public School System, Rufus graduated from Riverside High School, class of 1967. There he was a member of the Dukes Social Club. 

 

He attended Clark College in Atlanta, where he majored in English Literature and History.

 

Rufus was formerly employed by DuPont Industries and retired from Chattanooga State Community College. 

 

A proud business owner of JR’s Pool Hall, Rufus was instrumental in establishing the Brothers by Choice, a group of lifelong friends that enjoyed happy fellowship.

 

Rufus, an avid sports lover, possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of sports history. He was a Laker Man and a Raider Fan.

 

He loved to read and was an excellent conversationalist. Rufus was loved by all who knew him. He will forever be missed.

 

A flair in his choice of wardrobe, he enjoyed dressing and was an excellent cook. He loved music, cooking, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Stevie Wonder, the Isley Brothers, Isaac Hayes, and Marvin Gaye. 
A member of New Enon Baptist Church, Rufus loved the Lord and had an abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Rufus was deeply loved in life and will never be forgotten! 

 

He will forever be missed and remembered by his loving and devoted daughters, Nicole, Rolice, Michelle, and Marcquise; his sisters, Florine Johnson, Vickie Fielder Thornhill, and Cheryl (Ernie) Thomas; his brother, Kenneth (Lisa) Armour; grandchildren, Tapaynga Calloway, and Kolby Smith; nephews, Calvin Thornhill, Jalen and Corey Jackson; a host of cousins and other friends.

Lifelong friends and companions, Lexine Alexander, Donna Faye Davis, Dr. Clark White, Russell Jackson, Ronnie (Carol) O’Neal, Demetrius McQuinn, and Samuel L. Jackson.

 

A 3 p.m. memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
