John L. Day, 87, of Hixson, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

John served our country in the United States Army. John retired from Kroger Corporation with over 25 years of service. He then went back to school at Tennessee Temple and received his Master’s Degree in History. John was a former teacher and principle with Hamill Road Christian Academy.  John retired from his second job with the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services in Dayton. He was a longtime member with Community Baptist Church of Hixson where he also served as choir director and deacon.   

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Day; daughters, Darla Olvey, Debbie and Cindy Hamilton;

John is survived by his sons, Brett (Barbara) Hamilton and Barry Hamilton; grandchildren, Tami (Bill) Friar, John Olvey, Larissa Hamilton and Brettney (Anthony) Williams; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of John’s life will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday at the North Chapel with his Pastor Mark Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Baptist Church, 8807 Dallas Hollow Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343 or www.test.cbchixson.org.
