Johnny E. Reid, 79, formerly of Chattanooga, left this earthly life and entered into his eternal reward in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Monday, October 31, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He was a United States Army veteran and worked for Combustion Engineering for many years. He later worked for Chattanooga City Schools while pastoring Marble Top Missionary Baptist Church and in 1993, moved to Knoxville, to become the full-time pastor of Wilder Missionary Baptist Church. While serving as pastor of Wilder, Rev. Reid completed the Clinical Pastoral Education program through the University of Tennessee under the leadership of Dr. George Doebler.

Johnny Reid was well known during his time in Chattanooga for his wonderful singing voice. He blessed so many while lifting up songs of praise to God. We are encouraged that he was “Rooted and Grounded in Jesus and won’t have to die no more”.

Pastor Reid was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar (O.C.) Reid and Bertha C. Reid.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Hattie Beatrice Reid; three daughters, Carmen Martin, Ocieldred “Cel” Reid, and Juaneldred “Nel” (Tom) Reid; grandchildren, Gavin Swafford, Alexius Rice, and Aaliyah Rice; two nephews that he reared, Aaron Gray and Jonathan Dier. He leaves to cherish his memory brothers-in-law, Robert (Jackie) Gray, James Gray, Maurice Gray, and Mackie (Daphne) Bowden; sisters-in-law, Dorris (Dr. Houston) Bogus of Texas, Mary Gray, Cynthia (Rick) Daniels, and Diane Bowden; best friend, Herman Jackson; a great host of family and friends who loved him very much.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 4, from 6-7 p.m. at Wilder Missionary Baptist Church, 1531 Wilder Place, Knoxville, Tn. 37915.

Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the church. A military burial will take place on Monday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. in East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, Tn. 37920.
