Grissom, Carlene M. Ruth (Cleveland)

Carlene M. Ruth Grissom, 51, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 in a Chattanooga hospital. She was born on Sept. 29, 1971, a daughter of the late Carl “Puggy” & Janice Ruth. She was a member of Turning Point Community Church. Carlene enjoyed traveling and cheering on her Tennessee Vols, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her son, Jacob Grisso; one brother, Marvin Ruth; aunt and uncles, Gail Fulp, Odie Bartlett, Margie Jacks and James “Bo” Woodward, as well as many others; and grandparents, Helen “Granny Cross” Lawson, Jewel & Marvin Barlett and Willie Ruth.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, three children, Jessica Gee, Aaron Gee and Caleb Grissom (Darlene Skinner); three grandchildren, Antonio Vargas, Alyssa Gee and Alora Grissom; loving companion, Charles “Tony” Melton; one brother, Freddy Ruth; special cousins, Mary Johnson, Teresa “Pint” Pierce, Rhonda Baker, Lonnie Johnson, Sherri Moore, Tonya Martin and Becky Brown; special friends, Christopher & Josh Webster, Michael Bean, Jaclyn Willis, Ashley Ivey, Suzanne Baskette, Linda Gregory, Mike Melton and Billie Nichols and Tracy Melton; nieces and nephews, Tanner Ruth Dixon, Kameryon Bean, Elijah Appleberry, as well as many others; aunts and uncles, Teresa “Nana” Creasman, Charmine Fulp, Tammy Pell, Billie Ruth Moore, Jr. Cross, Danny Bartlett and Kenneth Bartlett; as well as many other family and friends.

A service celebrating her life is planned for Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Turning Point Community Church at 201 Durkee Road NE in Cleveland, with the Reverend Teresa Miller and Dr. H. E. Cardin officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from noon until the 3 p.m. service time.

The interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery, with Aaron Gee, Caleb Grissom, Antonio Vargas, Lonnie Johnson, Freddy Ruth and Tanner Ruth Dixon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Melton, Michael Bean and James “Bus” Grissom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Liver Foundation in Carlene’s memory.
