Foster C. Owens, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

 

Mr. Owens was the son of the late Charlie Albert and Daisy Irene Powell Owens of Opp, AL. 

 

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 66 years, Mattie Ann Garner Owens, his five beloved children, Donna Edgecomb-Hoskins, Dr. Phillip (Rebecca) Owens, James (Teresa) Owens, Gregory (Laura) Owens, and Krista Owens, precious grandchildren, Timothy (Leslie) Edgecomb,  Kimberly (Paul) Crocker, Scotty (Bonnie) Hoskins, Charles (Kelsey) Hoskins, Daniel Hoskins, Kara (Chris) Hoskins-Isaacs, Hannah Owens, Andrew Owens, Amy (Robert) Davis, Candace (Scott) Wilburn, Catherine (Reed) Owens-Doster, Wesley (Alexandria) Owens, foster granddaughter Amanda Crain,  He was preceded in death by a very dear grandson, Brian Hoskins.  He is survived by his loving great-grandchildren, Hunter (Morgan) Conway, Logan Conway, Paxton, Paizley, McKray, Mavryck, Memphis Hoskins, Cohen, Deacon, and Mabry Ann Crocker; Caleb, Kolten, and Kinsley Hoskins; Benjamin, and Corbin Isaacs; Gracey, and Easton Wilburn; and Violet Ann Owens.  He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Nelson of Opp, AL, and Doris Alexander, Chickamauga, GA, and five brothers, Donald (Jean) Owens, Scottsboro, AL, Douglas (Betty) Owens, Birmingham, AL, Dudley (Judy) Owens, Crestview, FL, Gerald (Shirley) Owens, Opp, AL, and Ferrell (Denia) Owens, Shreveport, LA.

 

He was a graduate of Straughn High School, Andalusia, AL, also a graduate of North Alabama Junior College, with a degree in Business Management.  He was retired from the United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, England, North Africa, Hawaii, Tennessee, Japan, and Maine.  He finished his career as acting Command Sergeant Major at Loring AFB, ME.  He was also retired from the United States Postal Service, Chattanooga, TN.  He was a member and former deacon of Browns Ferry Road Church of Christ and former member of East Ridge and White Oak churches of Christ. He was a member of Tennessee Retired Enlisted Association and Viet Nam Era Veterans Association No. 203.  He was humble and patient and loved by all who knew him.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 11:30 a.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Gary McDade.

 

Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. prior to the service in the chapel.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seek the Old Paths, 6818 McMinnville Hwy, Woodbury, Tn., or St. Jude, Memphis, Tn.
