Betty Johnson
Betty Lucille Kolwyck Johnson, 95, of East Ridge, passed away on Friday March 4, 2022, at her home with her daughter, son-in-law, and cousin by her side.
She was a member of the Hughes Avenue Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday school for young girls, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Ready Sunday School Class. She later attended the Community Baptist Church in East Ridge. She is now and has been member of Temple Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class for the past several years.
Betty retired from South Central Bell after 40 years of service in network administration. She was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers. She also was a member of the East Lake Garden Club. She enjoyed bowling on the Temple Baptist Church League team for several years. Her favorite hobbies were ceramics, walking, gardening and Christian music.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Julian W. Johnson, parents, James Hartwell Kolwyck and Blanche Carmichael Kolwyck, sisters, Mattie Lou Farr; Emma Pardue; Edith Minnick and Bobbie Hudgins, brothers Buddy Kolwyck; Bert Kolwyck; Earl Kolwyck; Raymond Kolwyck and Gene Kolwyck.
Left behind to cherish Betty’s memory are her daughter, Denise (Pat) Hughes of Acworth, Ga., many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 9, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Bob McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery alongside her husband, Julian.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Avalon Hospice and her private caregivers for taking such good care of her.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial contributions be made in Betty’s memory to Temple Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 90012, Chattanooga, Tn. 37412.
