Dowe, Arthur Samuel (Athens)

Arthur Samuel Dowe, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Arthur was born to the late Elijah and Rose Dowe on March 9, 1948, in Elizabeth, NJ.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Dowe and Robert Dowe.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Carol Dowe; son, Ed (Lacey Katona) Nadella; granddaughters, Emma, Averey and Chloe; sister, Marge (Pat) Russomanno; brothers-in-law, Glen Nadella and Michael Nadella; his sister-in-law, Peri Nadella; along with a host of extended family and friends.

Arthur was a life-long resident of Roselle, NJ, where he grew up, until he retired to Athens in 2008. He graduated from the Roselle Public Schools, and then entered the U.S. Army and is a Vietnam veteran. Arthur was employed by the Borough of Roselle in the department of Public Works for 33 years. Arthur served in the Roselle community in a variety of ways. He was a member of Roselle Auxiliary Police, committee member for the Roselle Everett Hatcher Drug Alliance for nine years and Public Works liaison for the Shade Tree Commission for nine years. He was the 2006 American Public Works Association Supervisor of the Year; vice commander of the American Legion for 12 years; and supervisor of Building and Grounds for the Public Works Department since 1995.

Arthur also was a member of Legion Post 68 and VFW Post 5146, both of Athens. He served many veterans in his community, and also loved cheering on his New York Yankees.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at Companion Funeral Home of Athens at 6 p.m. The family will be receiving friends from 4-6 p.m., prior to the service.

A Graveside service In New Jersey will be set at a later date.
