Doris Reynolds Chapman, 87, of Dalton, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Reynolds; granddaughter, Kate Leigh Chapman; siblings, Mary Helen Moss and James Howard Reynolds; nephew, David Reynolds; great-nephew, Jason Johnson.

Her family, friends and church were her life. She loved life and her smile always showed it! Her smile could brighten up any room she walked in. Doris was the kind of friend everyone loved and cherished time with. Her children witnessed her love for others first hand. They rarely went anywhere that someone didn’t stop them and express their love for Mrs. Chapman.

Doris’ favorite name for herself was “Nana. “ Her pride and joy was watching each of her grandchildren succeed in their studies and activities. She loved spending time with each grandchild. She made each one feel loved in their own special way.

Doris graduated from Cornelia High School. She was in the process of planning their 65th reunion. One of her greatest joys in life was singing. Being a part of the “Cornelia Trio” held special memories that she talked about often. Her love for her hometown stayed with her throughout her life. Doris graduated from Berry College in 1957. This is where she met the love of her life, Dr. Harlan Chapman. She retired from teaching after 35 years. Most of her years were spent at Brookwood Elementary in 4th grade. She would often say those were some of the best years of her life! She taught several generations of families and even taught Julie, her daughter in law. Doris kept a special pillow in their living room that says, “ All Things Grow With Love. “ This was the motto in which she taught and lived by. To know her was to love her. Even the nurses who knew Doris for a short week during her last week of life fell in love with her. Her life was a witness of Jesus’ love for all of us.

Doris is survived by her husband, Harlan Lee Chapman; children, Kent Lee Chapman (Julie), Kay Chapman Humble (Charley), and Kimberly Chapman Painter (Chad); grandchildren, Fields Chapman, Mary Helen Humble, Chapman Painter, Andrew Humble, Jack Harlan Humble, and Landon Painter; nephew and nieces, Kenny Reynolds, Kathie Estey, and Mary Ellen Reynolds; great nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at First Baptist Church of Dalton. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. in the Atrium. Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made First Baptist Church of Dalton.
