Center For Sports Medicine And Orthopaedics Celebrates Start Of Construction With Groundbreaking

  • Friday, May 20, 2022

Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics, a full-service provider of comprehensive orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, spine care, interventional pain management, and physical therapy and sports training services, commemorated the start of construction on its new Ambulatory Surgery Center. The crowd of orthopedic surgeons and representatives from BBL & Associates, Somerset Advisors and FirstBank marked the occasion with a ceremonial groundbreaking and photos.

“We are thrilled to break ground on our new surgery center, which we anticipate will be a destination for orthopaedics in our region," said Benji Miller, M.D., Medical Director for CSMO’s Ambulatory Surgery Center. "We made the decision to pursue the new ASC to expand our footprint and be a leader – both in our community and across the country – for innovative outpatient orthopedic surgical care. Many researchers believe that more than half of the total joint replacement surgeries will be in the outpatient setting by 2026, along with many other procedures – including spine care. With the newest technology, quality and safety as our priority, Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics is leading the way with new models of care and a comprehensive approach to outpatient surgical orthopedics.”

CSMO’s new ambulatory surgery center is an $18.7 million, 37,500-square-foot facility set on 4.3 acres and located at the corner of Walker and Tyner Roads in Chattanooga. Featuring eight operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and 40 pre-operative and recovery bays, the center will offer the most advanced tools and technologies needed for highly specialized orthopedic care, said officials. Construction is currently underway, and the ASC is expected to open in summer 2023.

“Our practice has continued to see tremendous growth in every area, including outpatient surgery," said Becky Farmer, chief executive officer of CSMO. "This new facility will replace our existing surgery center and be large enough to accommodate all 21 physicians. We believe this location will offer state-of-the-art and convenient access to ambulatory surgical care for our entire market. Part of our mission is to continue to deliver a more affordable option for safe, high-quality care. The new ASC will provide efficient, cost-effective surgical procedures and interventional pain management with the continued level of excellence that patients have come to expect from Center for Sports Medicine.”
