Every year, AVA hosts an annual Juried Member Exhibition. Traditionally, the artist whose work scores highest in the jury process is awarded a solo exhibit of their work in the Main Gallery at AVA the following year. In 2021, as a first in that tradition, Heath Montgomery tied for “Best in Show” with Donald Keefe and each artist was granted a solo exhibit.
Opening this Friday at 6 p.m., “replica” is a collection of recent works created by Mr. Montgomery exploring the idea of “the copy” and “the original,” with works ranging from painting, sculpture and digital interactive pieces. These precise and dynamic works incorporate imagery from Ancient Western Art History, science and contemporary technologies.
Landis Education Gallery: AVA is partnering with Scenic City Clay Arts to put together a showcase exhibit to highlight the diverse skills and talents of their teaching artists. This exhibit is one of a few ways AVA will be collaborating with SCCA in the coming months to highlight and celebrate the work and growth that is taking place in their organization. This exhibit will feature works by Lolly Durant, Marialice Hatch, Loren Howard, Nichole Johnson, Nicole Nichols and Paul Whetstone.
Both exhibits will be on view at AVA through Sept. 30. The opening reception will take place Friday from 6-9 p.m.
For more information about either exhibit, visit the main AVA website – www.avarts.org – or contact Tim Goldsmith, curator and education director at AVA, at tim@avarts.org, or contact the AVA main office at 265-4282.
