Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on August 4, 1931. He was a devout Catholic, devoted husband of 68 years, and he loved his sweets. He sent men to the moon during his career with NASA and was a lifelong learner, valuing education and curiosity. Jim served in the Navy Reserves during the Korean conflict, worked on trains and airplanes in addition to spacecraft, and ended his highly successful engineering career as a consultant. He received many honors and accolades over the years for his various achievements, yet he was humble. His first love was the Church, which was evident not only through his dedication to his family and work, but also through his generosity and readiness to help anyone in need, friend or stranger. He belonged to the American Legion, the Elks and the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at Ladies of Charity of Chattanooga. Jim participated in many community organizations over the years and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He was passionate about what he believed in and enjoyed telling a good story. His was a great story. He will be dearly missed.
