James Martin Harris
James Martin Harris, age 77, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Genevieve Harris and brother, Joe Erwin (J.E.) Harris.
He loved his family and loved the Lord. He was a member of Cross Pointe Christian Centre, an active member of the Agape Sunday School Class and Senior Citizens Group. He formerly served as a Youth Leader and Lay Speaker at Five Springs United Methodist Church. He was a proud YN3 veteran of the US Navy where he served on the USS Huse, USS Borie and USS Wright. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and tournament fishing. He was also a private pilot and a motorcycle enthusiast.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years and his high school sweetheart, Brenda Harris; daughters and son-in-law, Sheila and Dewayne Groce of Dalton and Sandy Putnam Chitty of Chattanooga; sister, Dorothy Babb of Dalton; grandchildren, James Daniel Groce and wife Candice Groce, Preston Paul Putnam and Parker Harris Putnam and fiancé Carolina Pineda; niece, Susann Babb Sosebee. He is also survived by friends in Valley Point High School Class of 1964. Special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their care.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond McCranie and Rev. Stan Lester officiating.
Burial will be in United Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Daniel Groce, Preston Putnam, Parker Putnam, Dewayne Groce and Paul Putnam.
