WTCI Flagship, Raise Your Hand, To Feature Local Spanish-Immersion Elementary Students

  • Thursday, January 26, 2023

WTCI announces its flagship program, Raise Your Hand, will broadcast a series of special episodes featuring a group of elementary school students who are proficient in both Spanish and English, taught by their teacher, Rosario Moore, also a children’s book author and illustrator.

Ms. Moore’s students will talk through excerpts from The Wholks, her series of books in both Spanish and English. These episodes highlight students’ proficiency in Spanish as young, non-native speakers and encourages language learning. Each episode features social-emotional and interpersonal education, in addition to its language aspects.

Created and taught by local community members, Raise Your Hand is the flagship series of WTCI, engaging all age groups from early learners to young adults in educational content from math, music, literacy, college readiness, storytelling, science, and more. Started during the pandemic for teachers to help students learn from home, the show has transformed. Since then, Raise Your Hand has become WTCI’s outlet for content creation to further reach students and fulfill its mission to provide engaging educational content for all ages. WTCI Educate encourages students at any age to think globally, learn locally. Find WTCI Educate on channel 45.4, EPB 304, or on Youtube.

Ms. Moore, originally from Mexico, currently resides in Chattanooga. Along with being an educator for over eight years, she’s the creator of The Wholks series of children’s books, ideal for first time readers. The series is written in both Spanish and English, bringing the reader into a colorful world of socks where we learn how to care for ourselves and others. Ms. Moore has always had an interest in early emotional education, prompting her to create stories in the world of The Wholks from her heart, and in her own way. She hopes to touch lives with her stories and strengthen children’s emotional regulation, teaching the importance of having positive self-esteem, self-love, values, self-confidence, and self-control.
