Lucille Russell Scott, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, in a local hospital.

She was born on April 11, 1933, in Meriwether County, Hogansville, Ga., to the late Thelma Russell Nelson and the late Deacon Otis Allison. Lucille was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and recently became a member of Christian Fellowship C.P. Church under the leadership of Pastor Eric K. Jones.

Lucille came to Chattanooga in 1948 as a teenager with a lot of hope in becoming a nurse. She met her first BFF, Miss Vivian Mack, and they started a job that led Lucille to work 35 years of her life. She became a nurse’s assistant at the colored side of Erlanger Hospital and performed as a full LPN, although she was not officially in that position. In August 1950, Lucille was joined in holy matrimony to Arthur B. Scott, Sr. and they made their home a place of warmth and loving hospitality. In the years to come, she made a lot of friends that she held very close to her heart.

In Lucille’s early years, she did domestic work on a daily basis to Lookout Mountain to work for the Wall Family. She continued to work in the health care industry for years. Lucille loved to travel and would jump on a cruise ship in a heartbeat. She would travel all over the Caribbean as well as Hawaii. She and her friends had a really good time and loved to brag about it when she returned home.

Lucille always liked to stay ahead on her job so she took up typing to advance herself which was one of the qualities she would impress upon her children and friends. She became very good at typing and decided to get her GED at Chattanooga State College in 1982. She loved to be involved in her children’s activities and achievements. If someone came to her with a problem, she would always try to help the best she could, never turning you down. Lucille was very wise, and everyone took her messages very seriously because they were true. All her family and friends loved to be around her because she was a lot of fun.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Allison and Thelma Nelson; husband, Arthur B. Scott, Sr.; son, Boise Christopher Scott; and daughter-in-law, Debra P. Scott.
