David Skidmore

David Matthew Skidmore was born on October 7, 1976, and passed away January 4, 2023, at his home in Lafayette, Georgia, after a lengthy illness.

He was surrounded by his loving family as he “Slipped the surly bonds of earth.”

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.D. and Nelle Skidmore and Benjamin Highfield.

He is survived by a maternal grandmother, Grace Highfield and his parents, Nancy and Dennis Skidmore, his two daughters:  Caden Skidmore and Kayler Skidmore and his only granddaughter, Kairi Miell.  Also present at his passing were his brothers, Daniel and Nathan Skidmore as well as his loving sister, Ellen Denman and her husband John.  He is also survived by several cousins and uncles and aunts.

David attended Ooltewah Schools and was a member of the ROTC program there until his family moved to Lafayette where he continued his education at Lafayette High School.  He was a very avid outdoorsman who loved walking and hiking in the woods and exploring Pettyjohn cave and spending much time during the summer months swimming at the Blue Hole. More than anything, he truly loved life and any adventure or challenge.  He seemed to learn to master most anything he undertook to learn.

He also grew up in church and loved to sing all kinds of music.  Having received Christ as his savior as a teen, his faith in God was able to see him through the long illness and that same faith has sustained him all the way to the threshold of his heavenly home. He will be sorely missed by all those who truly knew and loved him.

A private family interment will take place at the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial cemetery at an undisclosed date.  The family is most grateful for the love and care shown by Erlanger Hospital and Hearth Hospice care, and wishes anyone who cares to support the family do so with contributions to these wonderful organizations.
