Carl Johnson
Carl Johnson, 73, of Chattanooga, transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in a local hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born on September 22, 1950, Carl achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Memphis State University and pursued a successful career as an electrical engineer. He was highly respected in his field and made significant contributions throughout his career. He retired from Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and Bridgestone Firestone.
Outside of work, Carl had a passion for bowling, watching sports, and caring for his beloved Great Danes. He found solace and joy in these activities, and they brought him closer to those he loved.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Harry Johnson and Ossie Richmond Johnson; brother, Larry Johnson; and son, Reginald Johnson.
Carl left behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Catherine Johnson. Together, they built a life filled with love and companionship. He leaves his sons, Michael (Annie) Johnson of Memphis, TN and Darius (Lacressia) Hambrick of Eagle River, Alaska, as well as his daughter, Sheniqua (Robert) Hambrick Thomas of Chattanooga; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces; nephews who brought immense joy to his life. A special recognition to his devoted niece, Ashley Tibbs of Huntsville, AL. In addition to his immediate family, Carl is survived by his brother, Eric Glenn Johnson of Houston, TX; sisters, Janice (Sylvester) Cleaves and Evelyn Johnson of Memphis, TN. Carl’s love and dedication to his family were evident throughout his life.
Carl will lie in state on Friday, Nov. 3, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Henry McClain giving words of comfort.
