Erlanger Board Member Vicky Gregg Inducted Into The Tennessee Healthcare Hall Of Fame

  • Wednesday, November 1, 2023

Vicky Gregg, Erlanger board member, was inducted into the Tennessee Healthcare Hall of Fame for her numerous contributions and continuous dedication to the improvement of healthcare across the state.

Ms. Gregg is a nationally recognized healthcare champion who has guided industry reform and improvements from which Tennessee still benefits today. She began her career in healthcare at Erlanger as a nurse before moving to Humana and, ultimately, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, where she led the company as CEO for 10 years. Ms. Gregg was the company’s first female CEO and one of few female CEOs in Tennessee and in the healthcare industry as a whole.

One of Ms. Gregg’s most notable contributions to healthcare in Tennessee involves the development of “population health” models in the mid-90s. She believed successful health plans would need capabilities to manage populations from cradle to grave, including prevention rather than just sick care. The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation was established in 2003 under her leadership and continues to support the philanthropic mission of the company.

With her extensive history of working in healthcare, Ms. Gregg has been sought after for numerous boards, including the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority Board, also known as the Erlanger Health System Board of Trustees. She played an instrumental role in the recent Erlanger conversion to Erlanger Health, a 501c3 governance structure. Now part of the inaugural Erlanger Health Board of Directors, Ms. Gregg continues in her dedication to broadening access to healthcare for our communities.

“Vicky is deserving of this distinguished honor,” said Sheila Boyington, chaiwoman of Erlanger Health Board of Directors. “Vicky is a woman of tremendous wisdom and action, not a leader who merely speaks the words and waits on others to make them happen. She has been an important colleague during the historic efforts of becoming a private non-profit hospital. We are proud to have her as part of the Erlanger Board and appreciative of her guidance and leadership in our community."

With a penchant for leadership and innovation, Ms. Gregg remains actively engaged in several public and private company boards, including Quest Diagnostics and Acadia Health. She currently serves as the chair of the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga (EPB).

Ms. Gregg is also an active member of the BlueCross BlueShield Foundation.

With a mission to honor men and women who have made significant contributions to the health and healthcare industry, the Tennessee Health Care Hall of Fame seeks to recognize and honor the pioneers and current leaders who have formed Tennessee’s health and healthcare community and encourage future generations of healthcare professionals. The Hall of Fame was created by Belmont University and the McWhorter Society and is supported by the Nashville Health Care Council, a Hall of Fame Founding Partner.
