Jerry Summers
Recent tragedies at the Patten Towers and Frazier Avenue brings up the questions of crime prevention versus crime solution.
Neither of the events above are easy to prevent or solve due to the inadequacy of solutions and resources acting upon community pressure from a wide variety of needs from different branches of the citizenry.
“Proactive” is often defined as a person, policy, or action that creates or controls a situation by causing something to happen (or be prevented) rather than responding to it after it has happened.
“Reactive” is an obvious response to some or law, event, or policy that has already taken place in the form of corrective measures to prevent something from happening again.
It has been suggested that by one source that a greater police presence (more cops) would be a good first step. Others recommend more social programs.
(There are often no simple answers to complex problems in spite of commentary and vocal opinions expressed by many.)
