Annie Mae Hill was born on Thursday March 3, 1921, in Athens, Georgia to the late Richard Thurman, Sr. and Lillie Thurman. She departed this earthly life Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at NHC of Chattanooga.

She was educated in the Chattanooga Public School system and attended Lincoln Elementary School as well as Orchard Knob Middle School. She was employed by Dixie Yarn until her retirement. Annie stayed busy sitting with different people at NHC. She enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Annie joined Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist church at the age of twelve, and was a longtime active and faithful member until her health declined. She served as a member of the Choir, the Progressive Club and the Mother’s Board. Mother Annie was 102 years old, and at the time of her homegoing, she had the distinction of being the oldest member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Richard Thurman Sr.; husband, J.D. Hill; sisters, Magnolia Nesbitt and Sarah Weaver; son-in-law, Lester Woods Jr.; daughter, Joyce Woods; uncle, Charlie Thurman; and aunt, Lady B. Holder.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, sister, Ruby Smith; brother Richard (Wanda) Thurman, all of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, Deirdre Woods of Detroit, Michigan and Lester Woods III of Arlington, Texas; special niece, Alicia Thurman Jackson of Dalton, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be on Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Beautiful Greenwood Cemetery.
