Jerry C. Johnson
Jerry C. Johnson, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 6, 2023.
Jerry was a faithful son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devout Christian who gave everything he had to God and to those he loved. He was a good ole boy in the very best sense of the term.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mina Sanders Johnson, his sons, Jerry “Tyke” Johnson and Jeff “Rock” Johnson, his daughters-in-law, Judith Gannaway Johnson and Greta Jenkins Johnson, his grandchildren, Abigail Johnson Lawrence, Madeline Johnson, Isaac Johnson and Ryan Johnson, and his grandson-in-law, Jacob Lawrence.
Jerry and Mina were married in 1961 in Red Bank. They were members of Burk’s United Methodist Church in Hixson, since 1968. He was an active member for over 50 years of the Red Bank Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, and one of the original founders of the Hillbilly unit of the Alhambra Shriners.
Sports was always an important part of Jerry’s life. In his younger years, he played basketball at Red Bank High School and Hiwassee College. Then, when his playing days were done, he transitioned to coaching his sons as well as many other boys in little league. And, of course, he always loved his Tennessee Volunteers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jerry’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children at www.lovetotherescue.org.
The celebration of Jerry’s life will be on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson. Visitation with the family will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.
