Volunteer And Avid Crafter Loved Gardening And Spending Tim With Her Family

Shirley Ann McGhee, 78, of Rossville, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away on March 25, 2023, peacefully at her residence, surrounded by loved ones.

She attended Hardy and Kirkman Technical School. She was very active in sports, particularly enjoyed softball and basketball for the Salvation Army. She also volunteered as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. She was an avid crafter and loved to cook. She particularly enjoyed having family over to share a meal with. She had a green thumb and loved to plant her flowers in the spring. Shirley enjoyed playing with all the grandkids. She and Jimmy were members of Grace Avenue Community Church for 47 years. She also enjoyed reading her Bible. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was her family who she loved so dearly.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Timothy McGhee Sr. and Steven McGhee daughter, Rhonda Richardson, her parents, and a sister, Pat Young.

Left behind to cherish Shirley’s memory are her loving husband of 55 years, Jimmy McGhee Sr., children, Crystol (Javier) Jordan, Jimmy (Amanda) McGhee Jr., Christy (Jerry) Keys, grandchildren, Tiffany; David; Kalyn; Timothy Jr.; Alyssia; Lily; Lydia; Leah, five great-grandchildren, sister, Debbie (Johnny) Thompson, daughter-in-law, Toni McGhee, son-in-law, Joe Richardson, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Thursday, March 30, at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 29, from 4-8 p.m. She will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga Memorial Park.
