A non-profit providing a temporary home for women with addiction issues plans to expand to also provide affordable housing.

Scottie Bowman, a successful Chattanooga restaurateur, said the group has expanded to five homes on South Hawthorne St. through a $1.2 million gift from a benefactor.

She said the plan now is to build quadraplexes nearby where graduates of the program can live at affordable rent rates.

The city and county are helping the non-profit by deeding over some surplus property.

Ms. Bowman, who turned her own life around 21 years ago, started the Big Chill and then Scottie's on the River.
