The BLVD Project is a grassroots organization that seeks to improve safety, transportation, aesthetics, and the business environment along the Rossville Boulevard corridor. The corridor begins at the I-24 overpass and continues 2.2 miles south to the Tennessee/Georgia state line. The group is partnering with the Rossville Downtown Development Authority to host the Second Annual Cross-State Clean Up Day on Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon.
“People clearly care about this area of Chattanooga," said Heather Herweyer, director of The BLVD Project.
She said, "Behind the busy traffic are pockets of neighborhoods with families and elderly and lots of people who want to see improvements to the Rossville BLVD corridor.
These are the people who are showing up at community events, like the Annual State Line Clean Up Day.
"The BLVD Project and the Rossville Downtown Development Authority partnered together for this event last year and were encouraged by the progress that was made and decided to make it an Annual event.
"Last year, the group was able to make progress on eliminating and addressing graffiti problems by painting simple murals on buildings that are repeatedly tagged with graffiti. Research shows that graffiti taggers often respect community artwork and will not repeatedly tag an area that has been covered with artwork.
"Together, the two community organizations are working to show the Greater Chattanooga area that the State Line at Rossville BLVD is a safe and enjoyable place to gather and offers a small town vibe with great assets.
"This year’s State Line Clean Up Day will have two primary focuses: Artwork on abandoned buildings and Landscaping. The community is invited to help out with the clean up efforts. The kick-off and coffee will be at the future site of (be)caffeinated at 200 Chickamauga Avenue, Rossville, at 8:30 a.m."
