Peggy Jo Martin
Peggy Jo Martin was born in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, on October 24, 1937, to Walter and Martha Kelly.
She was married to Pastor Leonard Martin and served with him as Pastor’s helpmate at New Hope Baptist Church in Jasper.
Sister Martin was called home by God on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Even as her health declined, she still gave all praises and thanks to her Heavenly Father.
Peggy worked many years for Shaw Industries until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Hooker, GA where she served as usher of the church and performed in whatever capacity that was needed.
She was a wife, a mother, a friend and she loved her children dearly. Life was very enjoyable for her and vegetable salads, strawberries, baseball, and “Church Hats” were just a few of her favorite things.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Bobbie Paris and grandson Anthony Martin.
Sister Peggy is survived by her sons, Byron Kelly (Clara), James Martin (Joyce), Charles Martin (Bernadette), Joseph Martin; sister, Marva Westmoreland, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; special friend Nita Pickett and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Visitation is on Thursday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST at Tate Funeral Home, Jasper.
Funeral services are on Thursday, May 18, at 1 p.m. CST in the chapel of Tate Funeral Home, Jasper, Tennessee with Reverend Larry Owens officiating.
Interment will be on Friday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time at Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga.
Pallbearers will be friends and family.
