Harriette Louise Hickman Henderson, 82, of Dayton, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Life Care of Red Bank.

She was born in Morristown, Tn., on November 2, 1940, the daughter of the late Rev. Clinton Thomas Hickman and Dorothy (Suthers) Hickman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Rev. Robert Cullen Henderson, the former pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dayton, and her two brothers, Jamille Hickman and John D. Whiteside.

Harriette worked for Oster Corporation for 20 years as a foreman. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dayton since her childhood where she later served as First Lady for 35 years. She loved to cook and bake for others in the community.

Harriette is survived by her loving, devoted daughter, Gloria Marie “Missy” Hickman of Chattanooga; her two brothers, James Franklin (Martha) Hickman and Mark Isaac (Renee) Hickman, both of Dayton; and her twin sisters, Brenda (John) Mayo of Knoxville and Glenda Lemay of Southfield, Michigan. She is also survived by her four nephews, David Mayo, Brandon Allen, Marc Hickman, and Bradley Hickman; her four nieces, Kimberly Willingham, Kara (Robert) Avent, Sarah Allen, and Quinci (Chris) Nash; several great-nieces and nephews. Harriette was grandmother to two special young men, Kellan Branford of Knoxville and Damaurius Draper of Chattanooga. She also had two special, devoted friends, Margaret Swafford and Rosie Taylor.

Funeral services for Harriette will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, May 30, at 6 p.m. with Rev. Julian Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband on Wednesday, May 31, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tn., where they will receive friends after 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
