Claude Denton
Claude Hugh Denton, 91, of LaFayette, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
Hugh was born on Nov. 15, 1931, in Jamestown, Al., to the late Arthur and Lena Maude Grogan Denton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Louise Thomas Denton; and grandson, Andrew Edmondson Gilbert.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Wade) Gilbert Sr; grandchildren, Wade (Katie Beth) Gilbert Jr, William Gilbert, Britton Gilbert, and Christopher Silvers; great grandchildren, Lena and Caitlin Gilbert; and special friends, Maybell Sparks, Earlene Elliott, and Randall Magnusson.
He was a volunteer fireman for 40 plus years with the City of LaFayette and retired from Riegel Textile and Mount Vernon Mills on Dec. 31, 1999, after 48 years of service. Hugh enjoyed walking the golf course, collecting golf balls with his dog, Jack.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, at the LaFayette City Cemetery with Pastor Derrick Fielder officiating.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the service, from 1-3 p.m.
Pallbearers are Wade Gilbert Jr, William Gilbert, Britton Gilbert, Chris Silvers, Clayton Underwood, Cody Bailey, and Johnny Stephens Sr.
Honorary pallbearers are the past and present employees of the LaFayette Fire Department.
Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Walker County Animal Shelter.
