I recently enjoyed reading John Shearer’s article about Sam Woolwine. To say the least, it was a well-deserved tribute to a gentleman who has given so much of his time to golf in the Chattanooga community over many years.
As the former vice president and manager of Chattanooga Coca-Cola Bottling company, I had the distinct pleasure of working directly with Sam and then Chattanooga Golf and Country Club professional, Billy Buchanan at the annual Coca-Cola Youth Prep Classic golf event. This outing was considered for years as one of the premier tournaments for youth golf in the tri-state area.
Mr. Shearer was kind to point out the sponsorship of Coca-Cola but allow me the opportunity to set the record straight: There would have been no tournament without the dedication, commitment and follow through from both Sam and Billy B. Coca-Cola is and will forever be grateful to both gentlemen for their cooperation and partnership over those years.

I worked with Sam Woolwine in the Chattanooga golf scene for many years. I would like to add that my personal observations confirm there was no one who worked harder, cared more, or contributed as much to golf in Chattanooga than Sam.
He is a very fine man whom I admired as a leader and example.
Thank you, my friend, for all you've meant to me and to the game I love.
