12 UTC Beach Volleyball Players Named To Academic Team

  • Monday, August 4, 2025
Chattanooga beach volleyball saw continued success in the classroom for the 2024-25 academic year, and that success was reflected in the Ohio Valley Conference’s annual academic awards, which were announced by the league office on Monday.

The Sandy Mocs saw 12 student-athletes named to the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, a number that included three individuals also receiving OVC Academic Medals of Honor. Those individuals, whom each recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs for the 2024-25 year, were McKenna Faychak, Maddie Lecik and Doga Ocal.

The Commissioner’s Honor Roll total for UTC marks just the second time that Chattanooga has ended a year with double-digit honorees, sitting just one player shy of the program record of 13 from last year.
The Academic Medal of Honor number is also tied for the second-most in program history and marks the fourth time in the last five years that multiple Mocs have received the accolade in the same calendar year.

To be listed on the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, a recipient must have achieved at least a 3.25 grade point average over the 2024-25 year while being eligible and on the team throughout the competitive season. A grand total of 1,792 student-athletes received a spot on the conference honor roll this year, an OVC record.

To receive an OVC Academic Medal of Honor, a student-athlete must achieve the highest grade point average in an OVC-sponsored sport. In this case, the highest GPA across OVC beach volleyball was a perfect 4.0. A total of 354 student-athletes, including 20 beach volleyball players, were awarded with Academic Medals of Honor this year.
