William “Bill” Henry Barger
William “Bill” Henry Barger, 80, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, in a local hospital following a brief illness.
He was born November 12, 1942 in Chattanooga, to the late Linnie M. and Henry L. Barger.
Mr. Barger was a well-known organist and pipe organ builder. He co-owned and operated Barger and Nix Organs with Charles Nix until shortly before his death. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and an Honorary Member of the Guild of Carilloneurs of North America.
He was a long-time member and past music director of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church.
He is survived by a host of cousins, friends, and colleagues.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, at 5 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 7555 Ooltewah Georgetown Road, Ooltewah, Tn. 37363 with the Rev. Louisa Parsons officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Pre-funeral music will begin at 4:30 p.m.
A private committal will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4016 Tennessee Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37419.
It was Mr. Barger’s request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Music Endowment at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in his memory.
