Bessie Lewis
Bessie F. Lewis, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023, in an Atlanta, Georgia hospital, while visiting with her family.
She was born September 30, 1932, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Bertha Lewis Smith and Charles Smith. Bessie was a proud 1950 graduate of Howard High School. She retired from Erlanger Hospital after 43 years of service. She was a devoted member of Second Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to decline.
Bessie was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Davis Ingram, Marguerite Davis, Susie Mae Davis, Aaron Lewis McClendon, and Barbara Pride; brothers, David Lewis and Walter C. Lewis; grandchildren, Tyree Corley, Kierra Williams, and Kyleya Williams.
Her memories will be cherished by her children, Brenda Edwards, Pamela Moore, and Kevin (Rhonda) Moore; daughter-in-law, Beverley Moore; brother, Charles Smith; grandchildren, Anthony Jones, Lydia Murphy, Panya (Lynndale) Dixon, Karl Williams, McKenzie Moore, Kevin Chris Moore, Bryan Moore, and Joseph Moore; 37 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Bessie was our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend. She touched the lives of many…She will be missed and always remembered within our hearts. We know the tears of sorrow will turn to comforting smiles filled with beautiful memories.
Bessie will lie in state on Saturday, June 10, from 9-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. The family will meet at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. There will be no service.
