James Lamont Owens
James Lamont Owens, also known as “Black James”, 49, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, transitioned from this life to eternity on July 20, 2023.
He was born on November 23, 1973, to the late Virginia Buchanan and William Stamper but was adopted at birth by the late Ovetta and Luther Owens.
Mr. Owens enjoyed working in the construction field. He attended school in the Hamilton County School system. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Virginia Buchanan; brother, Norris Southers.
Mr. Owens was a proud community leader and a fan of many sports. He was family oriented and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and anyone else he encountered.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving wife, Tanika Haden; brothers, William Stamper, Oscar Buchanan, and Jamiral Stamper; loving sons, James, Brandon, Derrick, Kiaomee, Jaylon, Jatorrious, Davon, and Dedrick Owens; loving daughters, Aaliyah, Tamara, Jamaica, Jamesha, Ma’Chaeya, Jh’Kayla, and Jh’Kyiah, step-daughter, Tommesha R.; special aunt, Cathy Coleman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and close friends.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3, in the chapel of the funeral home.
