The Lee University Presidential Concert Series’ 31st season will open with the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

“We are so pleased to begin this season of the Presidential Concert Series with an established group that is a proven favorite here in our community,” said Darlia Conn, director of the Presidential Concert Series. “Get your tickets early because it is sure to be a big crowd. They play the music of an older generation with the flair that the younger generation enjoys.”

Review for the Glenn Miller Orchestra:

Acclaimed by the New York Times as having “a popularity so universal and lasting,” the Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most sought-after “big band” in the world. During the years of World War II and throughout the 1940s, the original group, formed by Alton Glenn Miller, popularized swing and jazz favorites such as “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Over the Rainbow,” and dozens of others. They quickly became the most commercially successful dance orchestra of the swing era.

The orchestra, along with lead singers, will perform their catalog of big band classics just the way they would have over 80 years ago when Glenn Miller stood in front of his band. It is a show that continues to transport audiences back in time and is as nostalgic as it is exciting.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra has performed all across the United States, as well as throughout Australia, Europe, Guam, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, and South and Central America. The group has toured continuously since 1956, being featured in over 200 concerts and dances per year, with each performance including the classics that first made it famous and more modern selections arranged in their own unique sound.

Tickets for the Presidential Concert are $15 for adults and $5 for students, seniors, and children. Tickets are available for purchase on Eventbrite.com, at the Lee University Box Office in the Dixon Center, or by contacting 614-8343, between 3-6 p.m., beginning Sept. 21.

Designated parking will be available for the event.
