Kay Williams Smith, 85, passed peacefully on September 17, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Albert Smith and her son, Timothy Allen Smith. She was the daughter of Ernest and Hazel Williams of Kingston, Tn.

Kay loved warm weather, sunshine, taking walks, working in the yard, reading, going to the beach, and spending time with family. She is known for her love of everything Christmas and the color red. She enjoyed cooking and sharing tasty baked goods with family, neighbors, and friends. She had a gift and desire to make people happy. She was a natural magnet for babies and little children and spent several years as a pre-school teacher. Kay was a member of Burks United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed time with her “Pairs and Spares” Sunday School Class. She retired from TVA after many years of service and lived in Hixson for 45 years until her husband’s passing.

She is survived by her two daughters: Tina (Michael) Frizzell and Darla (Jeff) Alford. She has two grandsons, Philip (Allison) Alford and Stephen Alford, and one great-grandchild, Abigail Alford.

Kay would not want those who knew and loved her to mourn her death, but rather to celebrate her life, to be happy, to live with hope and faith, to go out and experience new and exciting things, and to make real and lasting friendships.

Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24, in the funeral home chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home with Stephen Alford officiating. Interment will be on Monday, Sept. 25, at Kingston Memorial Gardens in Kingston, Tn. with Philip Alford officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Northside Neighborhood House, https://www.nnhouse.org/, PO Box 4086, 211 Minor Street, Chattanooga, TN 37405, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
