76th Anniversary Of The U.S. Air Force Celebrated

The John Sevier Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution celebrated the 76th Anniversary of the United States Air Force by honoring past chapter members and their patriot ancestors at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday at 10 a.m.

The chapter honored past air warriors by posting USAF flags at their grave sites. Past SAR members honored included: Frank W. Atkinson (SGT, WWII), Floyd E. Britton (PFC, WWII), Frank D. Chamberlain, Jr (Headstone pictured), David W.
Gott (LTC, WWII), Clarence H. Hooks (TSGT, WWII) and Alexander Rhoton (MAJ/Dr. Vietnam/Cold War).

The compatriot’s Patriot Ancestors by which they joined the SAR were noted as of the day’s celebration. The honored Patriot Ancestors included: James Robinson, a militiaman from NC and VA who was at Yorktown; Joseph Britton, from Maryland, with service in Gist Continental Regiment; Ebenezer Chamberlain, from New Hampshire, who served in Bedel’s Regiment; James Davis, from NC, with service at the Battle of Eutaw Springs; John Fain, a veteran of the Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774; James Denney, an artilleryman with the 1st Virginia Militia Artillery Regiment and William Anderson Alexander from NC who aided the revolution by manufacturing weapons.

Community members or organizations are invited to participate with the SAR as they celebrate the people and events of the American Revolution’s 250th anniversary running to the end of 2033.
